Got a fairly good rejection today, proclaiming that my story was excellent but didn't QUITE fit the theme they were going for and then went on about a few other good points of it. I'd feel bad, except I'm too damn busy editing the book for turning it in, and since the short story does tie into the books universe, I'm sure I'll sell it at some point. Nothing to feel too bad about. It's funny.. you get a few sales under your belt and suddenly you want to hit it out of the sales park everytime, but that's just not a realist viewpoint to have.
