Previously on Livejournal…
So for my birthday we went to Morimoto’s last night. If you don’t know who Iron Chef Japanese is, well, frankly I just don’t know what to do with you. We sat in a secluded area up at the actual sushi bar which gave us a sweet view of all the magic happening. It’s no Beni Hana with onion volcanoes or throwing shrimp bits into their hats, but it sufficed… heh.
Here, as I can best piece together was my taste bud journey:
Because I am SUCH a man, I can confidently drink anything girly.. which is why I ordered the white lily. It contains calpis but essentially it was like drinking liquid lemon PEZ and is perhaps the best substance on earth.
toro tartare- osetra caviar, crème fraîche, wasabi, dashi-soy (I actually saw this one made on iron chef this week, but with kanpachi, but the same elaborate set up for it)
oyster foie gras- market oysters, foie gras, uni, teriyaki sauce (it was obscenely good)
And because I think they accidentally sent two portions over to me, oyster foie gras again!
Next was a sushi plate of six pieces, but I can only remember what five of them were
hamachi / yellowtail
chu-toro / medium fatty tuna
kanpachi / amber jack
shira ebi / white shrimp
barracuda
whitefish carpaccio / octopus carpaccio- hot oil, mitsuba leaf
kanpachi with a sesame sauce, lightly braised on one side
surf & turf- wagyu beef& lobster in hot oil
red bean cake with apricot ice cream
And Orly had this: warm chocolate cake whiskey caramel, tobacco créme, popcorn ice cream
(and the tobacco crème wanted to make us both take up smoking, it was that tasty)
