I was thinking "oh, very MIB" when I read it, but you know, it was good that way. It's all about your attitude.

Some people make themselves feel important by joining the Peace Corps. Others do it by crapping on books on Amazon. The poor things.

Although I did write a nasty review of a book once because it really was so bad I wanted that part of my life and my money back. A book has to really rise to an unusual level of crappiness before I do that sort of thing, though.

i never even thought of men in black. even after you've said it, I still don't see it. If ANYTHING, it's closer to Lukyanenko's Night Watch than anything else, and that's just sort of a tangential connection based on the incredible levels of bureaucracy among the "good guys." Oh and how the good guys don't get paid for sh*t, but the baddies are rolling in it. But like you said, that's a trope of literature.
