So last night I stumbled in sometime after midnight. My clothes smelled of cheap weed, beer and sweat so you guessed it... why, yes, I was at the Lynryd Skynyrd/ Kid Rock show at Madison Square Garden last night.
I wouldn't necessarily have gone to this show, but we had tickets through some friends and I have to say it turned out pretty keen.
I mean when else in my life could I scream out "FREEEBIRD!" and actually have it played by the band that wrote it? Only minorly creeped out about the uber-Americanism and Confederate flags... sometimes I forget that many southerners think the Civil War is still going on...
And damn, that Kid Rock is a balls out entertainer. In his half of the show alone we heard rap, blues, southern rock, country, motown, honky tonk... where else are you going to find that mix?
Plus there were special guests...
He had Peter Wolf of the J. Geils Band out for several songs, Including Love Stinks and Centerfold, plus they did a few Motown classics. Then Rev Run came out for about five or so songs, including It's Tricky, Walk This Way, You Be Illin'...
I was impressed... and if the show on the stage wasn't grabbing you, the crowd around you was. Watching some of the people swaying and dancing and trying to rap along, waving their hands in the air... it WAS like the just didn't care! I'll miss the four white homeboys in front of me most of all.. thanks for the cheap second hand buzz off the joint and a half of stems you smoked while looking around all paranoid for three hours. Special times...

Peter Wolf... you know, he was looking pretty rough 20 years ago. I can only imagine now.
adding kid rock to list of performers to see.
